This is the video version of my Richter post about his painted-over photos, which are among his most captivating works. It includes lots more images, and much larger ones at that. My approach includes doing a deep internet search for the best available images and footage to pull from so that my videos contain top-notch visual representations of the art I’m addressing.

This is the only recent video about this body of work, and it is also the most comprehensive and has the best imagery. I also introduce his abstract paintings and his paintings after photos, including the infamous October 18, 1977 series based on police photos.

  1. This was so cool, Eric! I wasn’t very familiar with Gerhard’s work before, and now I recognize his influence in some of your work, very interesting! I especially like his abstract works and I have been using some similar techniques without knowing it, I do love “coincidences”!
