Short movie showing 25 stages of this image

I’ve been working on this on-and-off for over a year, coming back to it between other pieces. If you just see the finished image you might think it was more preconceived, or I copied things from other sources. Here you can see this was a very organic process, and the image evolves all over from…

The Menagerie

This is #4 of a series of 12, 3X4 ft. acrylic paintings done >20 years ago. [Note: I actually did all but 3 of these before I started at UCLA. During my first semester I had a painting class in which the teacher rejected this style because it was figurative, and she made abstract work.]…

My “Alien Autopsy”

A classic theme of our modern era. In the past you had your crucifixions, odalisques, cupids, men on horseback, bathers, ballerinas, depictions of heaven and hell, the Sphinx, Madonna and child, Venus, Leda and the Swan… Often one will hear the postmodern argument that nothing new can be said or depicted, my counter argument to…

How did I never encounter this before?

Queen’s “News of the World” is easily one of my favorite all-time album covers. Just like realizing a favorite Zeppelin song is actually a cover of some guy-you-never-heard-of’s original material, finding this book cover came as a little reality tweaker. The original painting was from 1953, by Frank Kelly Freas. However, the new one is…

Today from the archives is a realist digital painting, "Scissors and Ball" from 1/2019.
Today from the archives, "Bat Girl Bites Back", digital painting, 6/ 2020. I feel like this one slipped under the radar and was scarcely noticed by my audience.
Today from the archives, "The Sphynx", digital painting [2017]. This is a rather ecstatic mix of painterliness, Expressionism and Surrealism.
Today's blast from the past is "CEOTK", digital drawing, 2016. This is just drawing without any preconception to see what arises. Some of the details are pretty cool, like the slime dripping from one of hte hands. I made it this square format for IG when I joined up in 2016. I was optimistic about breaking in. Never happened.
Today from the archives, "Seafood Spaghetti Sunday" [Digital painting, 2013]
Today's pic from the archive, "100 Line Experiment". Yes, it's an experimental piece with precisely 100 lines, and a dot. I don't normally do abstract art(actually "non-representational" but everyone says "abstract"), but on occasion I certainly enjoy it. It's kind of like instrumental music.
