snakecharmer
John Preskill, a “snake charmer” of physicists. Artwork by Eric Wayne.

I don’t normally do commissions, but in this case my nephew, who is a graduate student in physics asked me to do a caricature of one of his instructors, John Preskill, for an article he was working on for Quantum Frontiers (a Caltech blog for quantum information and matter). Preskill was a favorite instructor of my nephew’s, and a role model for him as a teacher. The reason he’s charming snakes is this was an analogy for the rapt spell his delivery of lessons had on my impressionable nephew, who has in insatiable thirst for pushing the frontier of his own knowledge.

You can read his article here. He has an interesting take on teaching, which I quite enjoyed since I’m also a teacher, though a completely different subject and context.
